MedVasc is pleased to announce that the company’s founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Michael Åkesson, has been named this year’s Swedish Honorary Member of the Seldinger Society.
The Seldinger Society, named after Swedish radiologist Sven-Ivar Seldinger, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of interventional radiology and vascular medicine. The honorary membership is awarded to professionals whose work has had a lasting impact on the field.
As part of the annual meeting, Dr. Åkesson was invited to deliver a presentation on clinical practice and innovation in Swedish interventional radiology. Drawing on decades of clinical experience, he shared perspectives on technological development, clinical adoption, and the importance of addressing unmet needs in patient care.
Dr. Åkesson founded MedVasc in 2013 and is the inventor of the Solutio™ catheter, a novel technology designed to improve the delivery of tumescent anesthesia during endothermal treatment of varicose veins. Under his leadership, MedVasc has advanced the technology from concept through clinical evaluation and ongoing regulatory preparation for the U.S. market.
“We are proud to see Michael receive this well-deserved recognition from colleagues and peers within the vascular and interventional radiology community,” says Cathrin Johansson, CEO of MedVasc. “His commitment to innovation and patient-centered care continues to shape both our company and the field at large.”
The recognition reflects Dr. Åkesson’s longstanding contributions to vascular medicine, clinical innovation, and the development of new technologies aimed at improving outcomes for both patients and physicians.
Solutio is currently under development and has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
